Alta Via Stage Race 2015
Alta Via Stage Race is much more than just a race. It’s an adventure, an experience, a chance to really live your sport and be close to nature, the countryside and the history of one of the most beautiful parts of the Mediterranean — the Ligurian coast and hills. You will travel the length of the Alta Via — the spine — of the Ligurian mountains, starting from the Province of La Spezia and cycle along the top of the Appenines and the Ligurian Alps, until you reach the Province of Imperia, on the border with France. You will pass through very varied countryside and along some technically difficult tracks.
The race route isn’t marked by strips, in line with the respect for the environment and the adventurous nature of the event: to orient themselves, the Teams have at their disposal the materials provided by the organization (maps, road books, elevation profiles and GPS tracks). GPS tracks are the essential tool to follow the path, so each Team must be equipped with a satellite navigation system and should be able to use it with confidence.
Alta Via Stage Race 2015 can be ridden in four different ways: two competitive formulas, with overnight stay in tent (the classic HERO formula, with nine days and eight stages, and the already tried and tested WEEKEND formula, which provides only the last three stages) and two non-competitive formulas, with overnight stay in accommodation facilities: the new FUN, with nine days and eight stages, and the ONE DAY, which provides a single stage).
As for the competitive formulas, every day there will be an awards ceremony for the stage winners (Solo and Couples categories). The leading Teams in the overall categories will receive leaders’ jerseys. At the end of the competition, the top finishers in each category will receive quality local products and free stays at the accommodation facilities belonging to the Association Ospitalità Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, main partner of Sports Association Liguriavventura in the organization of Alta Via Stage Race.
The following information relates to the HERO formula, the main way of participation in Alta Via Stage Race. The FUN formula differs only for overnight (in hotel and not in tent). The WEEKEND formula (in tent) and the ONE DAY formula (in hotel) last less days.
