Big in Bavaria

Andreu Lacondeguy, Darren Berrecloth, Martin Söderström, Trond Hansen, Lance McDermott, Corey Bohan, James Foster, Ryan Guettler, Dave Dillewaard or Cameron White – The biggest names in the bike business confirmed their attendance at the BIG IN BAVARIA dirt jump comp in Munich on July 25th and 26th. This one of a kind dirt event showcases X-Games, Dew Tour, Red Bull Elevation, Crankworx and Qashqai Challenge winners and therefore can claim to be the biggest European dirt jump contests in the season 2009.

Rob Darden, American BMX pro that placed 3rd at the X Games 2008, can’t wait to have his big time in Bavaria: “I am looking forward to some good times with some great friends while getting loose on our bikes and taking in new parts of the world.“ Rob’s Colombian BMX buddy Alejandro Caro already promised to “pull it as hard as he can”. Dave Dillewaard from Australia said almost the same, but also pointed out that he especially can’t wait to taste the luscious Bavarian beer in the evening. Benny Korthaus, former BMX pro and now one of the most successful mountain bike riders worldwide, is even more emotional: “I am born and had been raised in Munich – it’s my home. For the first time I’ve got the chance to have pretty much all of my old BMX mates as well as my mountain bike friends in one place for a great weekend and beyond. For sure it’s also just great to show my family here in Munich, what I do for living. With their support, as well as the one from all my local friends here, I am sure to be able show stuff that I have never shown before!”

The current BIG IN BAVARIA list of riders includes not only Rob, Alejandro, Dave and Benny, but also features the who’s who of world’s best mountain bike and BMX riders.

But the BIG IN BAVARIA is not only about the most important names in mountain biking and BMX. Also the dirt jumps are about to beat most of the things ever seen before. The head of course construction, BMX pro Markus Hampl, uses over 2.000 tons of dirt for 180 meters (about 200 yards) of pure riding pleasure. The course building starts in the beginning of June and the shapers will sweat for almost a month. The eight meters (about 25 feet) high wooden starting tower provides the proper speed you need for the huge doubles. Some sections of the BIG IN BAVARIA jumps feature two parallel dirt lines, which enable the riders to take challenging transfers. Due to an overall prize money fund of 20.000 Euros for each category, mountain bike and BMX, hard battles between the riders as well as lots of airtime, the craziest tricks and sickest combos are guaranteed.
