Calestano Superenduro
After a summer break in August, Superenduro is back, with a round that will kick off on the 9th of September from the renovated central square of this charming medieval town nestled in the Parma Apennines.
Calestano Superenduro is the penultimate round of the 2017 Series, a season full of unexpected twists, intensely battled yet still wide open with 4 riders fighting for the overall title within less than 200 points.
Vittorio Gambirasio (Red Bike Team) is the current leader of the series, but Nicola Casadei (CMC – IBIS Team) and GB Rifar teammates Marco Milivinti and Matteo Raimondi are hot on his heels.
“As a result of the cancellation of the Bike Summer Festival of Varano de Melegari, we felt compelled to quickly find an alternative solution that was up to the task and able to maintain the same high level of competitiveness we are witnessing within the sport at present ” Enrico Guala of Superenduro explains “We were not fully aware of Calestano’s situation but the visit paid by Manuel Ducci a few days before the round of La Thuile has been decisive ”.
The feedback from our technical director has been very positive: trails in excellent condition, good fun to ride, in harmony with the topography, very long and absolutely new to most riders.
More than enough to turn our spotlight on Calestano and to power up our organising machine, that immediately started working on the set-up of the event – including its logistics – in consultation with the municipal administration and with the crew of the Alpicella Bike Park.
The race will take place over 4 different Special Stages, totalling 44km of distance and 1630m of vertical drop, with a time control between Special Stages 2 and 3.
The landscape here is quite unique and it defines the nature of the trails, stretching for good distances along mountain ridges before dropping into the valley throughout continuous sequences of switchbacks in the woods. Sudden changes of pace and conditions go along with the variety of the terrain, mainly rocky on top of the hills while soft and loamy in the wood sections. And in most cases on single track, and for long distances.
A variety of conditions on offer for a race that will prove decisive in terms of championship.
Special Stage 4 will greet the riders with the final few hundreds meters of the race course crossing the old town and with a finish line located just in front of the Town Hall, a short distance from Event Village and Paddock area.
The local crew and Superenduro cannot wait to welcome all of you on the 9th and 10th of September at Calestano!
