Drop and Roll Tour

The temperatures are rising, the summer is coming! Danny MacAskill and his Drop and Roll crew are looking forward to the summer shows in the next months. After three great shows in Sheffield, Zurich and on the Isle of Skye, Danny, Duncan and Ali are heading to Fort William this weekend for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup from June 4th to 5th. Although the three trials experts will not be racing down the Scottish mountains against the likes of downhill stars such as Aaron Gwin or Gee Atherton, they will be keeping the crowd on their feet, whilst showing off nerve-wracking tricks on the Drop and Roll Tour rig.

1. What are you guys looking forward to most this summer on the Drop and Roll Tour?

Duncan: Everywhere we seem to go the crowds are great, so it is hard to pick out one thing. However, Fort William is always a massive one for us. It is an event we have all gone to as kids to watch all our favourite riders and racers. As I am from Inverness, our shows at MacGregor Industrial Supplies the following weekend are also going to be pretty amazing for me. It will be the first time, we have taken the Drop and Roll Show to my hometown, so it will be great to see so many familiar faces in the crowd.

Danny: It was great to celebrate the first warm days in Scotland with the launch of my new video for Muc-Off “Aviemore Spring”. I am pleased to say, that I will be spending a fair bit of time in the UK over the summer, doing shows with the Drop and Roll Tour and hitting Fort William, Inverness and London. Let’s hope the summer is going to be a roaster.

2. How does the show in Fort William differ from others?

Danny: I always look forward to the UCI Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup! It really does have an amazing atmosphere. And the real bonus for me is, that it’s right on my door step. This year is going to be a big one! We are returning to do Drop and Roll shows on the Saturday and the Sunday and I am really looking forward to them. It’s also Peaty’s (editors note: Steve Peat, British downhill athlete) last year of racing, so I’m sure the crowds will give him a proper send off.

3. Will you find the time to take a look at some of the downhill action?

Duncan: Absolutely, all the Drop and Roll riders keep a close eye on the World Cup and watch all the races on Red Bull TV. So, it’s awesome to get a chance to be up in Fort William and watch the racing live. Watching Steve Peat win there in 2005 is definitely the best sporting event I have ever witnessed. It is going to be pretty special, seeing him race there one last time.

Danny: I think, if you’re in Fort William for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, it’s important to get up in the gondola and walk down the side of the course. Whether the riders are racing or just practicing, you get a great idea of just how hard and unforgiving the course is and how fast the riders have to go! I’ll definitely be getting up there for a track walk myself.
