Pure Skateboarding #4
Pure is a free press magazine dedicated to skateboarding.. and nothing else. Astonishing pictures by the best italian skate photographers.
“I have an inexpressible passion for looking at photographs. And believe me, the photos that fascinate me are not those shot by award-winning photographers, but mere family album photos. Especially those photos that were discarded and didn’t even make the final selection for a moment to remember.
In moments like this I feel like I’m on a mission. I’m looking for the “right” photo that not only fulfills the most basic and least obvious aesthetic requirements, but is also able to capture an undescribable feeling that exists between the subject and the person behind the lens. The naturality of these moments that are portrayed by the camera of a relative or a friend, or however of someone you have total intimacy with, such that the latter becomes almost invisible, is priceless.
An interpersonal intimacy that becomes intimacy with time, with the location, but foremost with oneself. It means being there in the right place at the right time, and being well-aware of it! Recently I was able to give an in-depth look at the material from the 80’s and 90’s belonging to the official photographer of the Roman skate scene at the time. It was immediately clear to me that Giampiero was exactly what I have described, and that his photographs are timeless because they portray a specific moment in time, but also an immortal attitude, an attitude that concerns us all.”
