The next big thing! Babel

What did you do in the last six months?
We signed with the Italian Label “This Is Core” of Genoa and we realized the video of our first single “On the Sofa”, directed by Beppe Platania. We worked on the artwork and the printing of our first album “Del Giorno Dopo Ieri” (release date April 17) and we started our partnership with Ghost Agency Booking, that is organizing a promotional tour. We are also working on some new ideas and songs.

What do you’ve in your wallet now?
What we have in it we spend it on records. Now we are spending for our own record. When some money will come back we will go on with this method. We live on the edge but it is a satisfying existence.

Why this name for your band?!
At first we like the its sound. Further, we think that the amount of meanings it can rise depicts what we are trying to say, the historical context, the lives we’re living as men and society. But if somebody want to see in it any other meaning, even better.

How much important is the image (look) for your band? Why?
The image is essential. Concerts and records, you see them before hearing them. It doesn’t mean we are image-fanatics, quite another thing. The image we want to pass during our concerts or with the artwork is something raw, minimal. I’m thinking about Jesus Lizard. Raw, to the heart of the matter. In their sound, impact and rage.

Talk to me about the new album “Del giorno dopo ieri”. Are you fully satisfied?
From the technical point of view we are fully satisfied. Saturated amplifiers from the ‘70s, and combined anagogic and digital mastering and mixing. The record is bare, well-groomed and the sound is better than what we expected. From an artistic point of view we are also fully satisfied. However, you can get it’s a first record. Listening to it and playing it live must help us to work with more awareness both on the arrangements and the song-writing.

Which is the highpoint of this album?
We hope it will come out on its own in the future. Probably the highpoints are the single “On the Sofa” and “Le vie del quartiere”.

What’s your idea of perfect happiness?
You can’t teach happiness. You can teach something. Happiness is a subjective reverberation of a reached objective perfection. As Michel Houellebecq said: do not fear happiness; it does not exist.

Who are some of the bands you admire?
Tool, Nine Inch Nails, The Jesus Lizard, Isis, Dredg, A Perfect Circle.

What song is in your head right now?
Tiger Girl – 65daysofstatic, We Were Exploding Anyway

Name 3 words that describe your band.
Rock. Loud. Rock.

The best and worst quality of your band?
For sure, our best qualities are perseverance and total commitment. The worst is that we are not rich and we can’t invest all the money we would like to on this project.

What’s the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever been with Babel?
The band trip to the Aquarium of Genoa on the day we signed the contract with Beppe Platania for This Is Core. That really was an awkward moment.

What’s the most ridiculous rumour you’ve read about the band?
That we are a young band. We are not young. We are more ore less 27-year-old people, in England young bands have 20-year-old guys.

Do you’ve a good reason to be in Behind Magazine?
Promoting our record “Del Giorno Dopo Ieri”. Best reason ever.

Something to add?
