THE NEXT BIG THING! IL VILE

Talk to me about the story of the band!
Il Vile” is a stoner-rock band based in Verbania (North West Italy), founded in the 2006, it has some different changes of lines-up and gigs on its back. In the 2010 the band has released the first album called “Insonne”” produced by Alma Music, which has been brought the band to some TV and radio shows, many live gigs and collaborations with bands which were part of the italian and european independent scene. We have taken part into the compilation: ”Make up, not war”, with the song “LevitaBile”. We have done a tour in Galicia (Spain), we performed at the Iguana Rock Club Vigo (in this club performed Iggy pop, Green Day, Mano Negra and many others), we obtained to be head-liner at the FestiOval (international festival of street art and music) aside from a short tour in Barcellona, where we have a gig at Moog Rock’n Roll Club, the hub of the Bacellona’s underground music movement.
On October 20th 2014 there were the official release of the new EP “La tragedia del mediocre”, has been self produced instead the new official video “Funeral girl” which has been produced by This Is Core Records.

What did you do in the last six months?
We had wrote the new album, we were also working preparing the live show’s structure as well as we have made the shooting of “Funeral girl” video.

What have you got in your wallet now?
For sure we have done a good job with an album distribution: great feedback, many reviews, some dates in clubs to promote our music and finally a really cool video.

Why have you chosen this name for your band?
For us it was important how to choose the name of the band, we decided at first this one because we think it’s very important to give an original and unique image about our band, completely, I mean, something you cannot forget very soon! The second reason is because “Il Vile” was a very good italian music album (Marlene Kuntz band). We believe we are all living in an empty and macist epoch, “Il Vile” is someone who has to have the courage to be scared… Maybe it’s only a romantic idea, but anyway its express our desire to do not become stuff that feeds the mouth of discography business.

How important is the look/appearance for your band?
We don’t think the look it’s so much important, I mean, because we are the way we are, we don’t disguise as well as we don’t mind ‘bout appearance… We take care about our music, we would that our messages go straight into the people: our sound and its power, our poetics which are in the lyrics… Obviosly we need something “visual”, but it’s more important to be the way we are now.

Tell us about the new EP “La tragedia del mediocre”. Are you fully satisfied with it?
Yes we are, because we managed it in all of his parts. Clearly as the most of the artists we will never unquestionably and fully satisfy, but this album is good as it is.
The drawing up, recording and the mixing, pictures and graphics have all the sign of the band (thanks to Kiri because he is more than a bass player he’s a sound engineer). The Ep intentions is to put under light the identity we have reached, avoiding external raids in our work in progress. We rent a concert hall and the equipment to record the tracks, taking them from live to catch the puissance and alchemy and putting it into the album… Clearly there are some guitar overdubbed and some vocals have been made in second time, but everything is the most basic that we could do, to avoid every trappings. We believe the outcome aside from we have got a good competitive and executive level, it’s to show how much we are truly in love about what we’re doin’.

Which is the highest point of the EP?
Being direct, sincere. Soul and heart made, without any compromises. But especially it has to be different from every others, like it has got its own identity.

How would you define your sound?
Our sound it’s powerful as well as claustrophobic, with a little bit of melodic opening and intimate lyrics open through outside. Musically an hybrid between the old school stoner, grunge and the independent italian music of the ‘90s.

Stoner-rock. Describe for me these words!
For “Italians” generally, stoner is like a “kind ever”… I mean, something like grunge, which has been included bands that haven’t got much in common as a stylistic affinity. For us Stoner has two attributes: the american one which cames from faraway. It belongs to desert (and we haven’t got one), we can get inspire of it, but no one could copy any part of it. The English one came from the Black Sabbath’s sound, isn’t it? Both have some fixed spots, for example the repetitive riff and all of psychedelic elements which came from the seventies.

Which bands have influenced your style?
Black Sabbath, Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Queens Of The Stone Age, Electric Wizard, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Marlene Kuntz, Umberto Palazzo & Il Santo Niente, Verdena, Afterhours…

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
The bands that we really like and believe in, are basically the bands that don’t spare and sell off themselves. Usually we go to their live shows, to listen them, catching all the emotions they throw out. Each of us listen some different kind of music, we find inspiration and satisfaction from stuff it’s quite different style from Il Vile. Anyway we support and understand the hard work behind a good job.

Live and don’t stop to chase dreams.

What song is in your head right now?
“Funeral girl”… Because we have already finish the video so we have listened it lot and lot of time, therefore it sticks on our brain.

Name 3 words that describe your band.
Powerful, claustrophobic, sincere.

Which are the best and the worst qualities of your band?
Our worst fault is that we are not interested about what most of people like, but we are focus only about what we like. Honestly we are not willing to get and accept compromises. We believe our stuff it’s a good stuff and we don’t deserve anyone to treat us with comptempt. We are messy and we love to drink as well. We are sure we have got really good skills on technical/composition level, so we know what we’re doing, we don’t emulate anyone, our lyrics are in our mother language, and we’re fucking cool on stage!

And of your local music scene?
We have a small but prolific local scene where everybody could explain theirselves, and there’s not a monopoly genre… Unfortunately we have few spaces to gig and most of them are menage by persons that haven’t got enough passion and capacity to run the live show programation.

What is the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever been with Il Vile?
Well, sometimes when we gig where we find ourselves in a situation where people are not used to listen a powerfull sound, it’s funny to see the imbarassment and dismay on people’s faces, their eyes that stare us… Anyway we don’t get embarrassed, almost never, we are too bloody asshole to doin’ it!

Have you got a good reason to be in Behind Magazine?
Of course, we’re ass splitter! We never slacken in spite of everything, we know what we are looking for and what we are doing, we know we have some attitude. It’s enough… isn’t it?!
