THE NEXT BIG THING! LOUD NINE

What did you do in the last six months?
We worked on the new album, it takes a lot of time to do everything necessary to release a good record, especially if you do everything yourself. You have to take care of a lot of things, spending most of the time in the rehersal room with the band, on a pc preparing artwork and visuals and searching for labels and distributors. Also the choice of the recording studio is a great challenge, it is not easy to find the right sound engineer and to establish the right feeling with the band.

What have you got in your wallet now?
The pick of destiny. It’s a secret, please don’t tell anyone.

Why have you chosen this name for your band?
Originally the name was Cloud Nine, and it was chosen by our first drummer Kenny, it was fine. When he left the band we decided to make a “radical” change starting from the name so…we deleted the C! Now it sounds better, and it better represents our aim to play loud, everytime and everywhere.

Talk to me about the history of the band!
We were born in 2005 from the meeting between me (Dave) on the bass and the guitarist/singer Morgan. Our purpose was to build up a band starting from our great passion for grunge and stoner rock and we wrote our first songs during the first weeks. When our first drummer Kenny joined the band, we started with the first live shows, and we recorded the first demo and the first EP. In 2007 the drummer Fede joined the band replacing Kenny, and in 2009 we released our debut album Golem. This was a funny period, we performed a lot of live shows and shared the stage with great bands such as Dozer, The Get Up Kids, Nick Oliveri, Toner Low, The Briggs. Two years ago we decided to make some changes, and the guitarist Valerio joined the band, so we became a quartet. This means more sound opportunities and more devastating live shows. The new drummer Francesco joined us one year ago and he recorded with us the new album Revelations. Now we’re touring to promote it everywhere possible!

How important is the look/appearance for your band?
There are no doubt that music is the most important thing for a band, but the appereance has a significant role in rock ‘n roll music. Anyway we don’t care about our look, we think that it’s ok to be ourselves, we’re not fuckin’ posers.

Tell me about the new album Revelations. Are you fully satisfied with it?
We’re really satisfied with this album, the result has repaid us of the effort made. We’ve paid a lot of attention to all the aspects, from the music, to the lyrics. Also the artwork is the result of a large work of research, and it has a lot of possible meanings. Everyone can find their own personal interpretation .We’re also really excited by the video of the first single Burn, check it our on our Youtube channel! I think that this record is a big step forward compared to our previous album Golem.

Which is the highest point of the album?
We’re really satisfied with all the song on this album, so it’s not easy to choose an highest point. This is a question that I should do at our fans!

…And the lowest point?
The sound could have been “bigger”

How would you define your sound?
It’s a rock’n’roll sound, affected from the great bands from the 90’s but really personal and aggressive. It’s a big slap in the face!

Rock. Describe for me this word.
Rock is a way to espress yourself and your anger. And it is the most natural way that exist, plain and simple.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
I’m not sure that perfect happiness exists, but when you’re with people you love, everything can be perfect.

Tell me some of the bands you admire.
This list could be very long! Metallica, Alice In Chains, Motorhead, Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age, Soundgarden, Deftones, Melvins, Kyuss, Fu Manchu… These are all bands that had a great influence on us.

What song is in your head right now?
A credit to his gender (Good Riddance)

Name 3 words that describe your band.
Rowdy. Powerful. Proud.

Which are the best and the worst qualities of your band?
We’re really focused on our goals, and we know how to bring out the best of us, but we’re a little bit lazy.

And of your local music scene?
There are great bands in Lombardy, some of them are doing an excellent job and they’re getting great results. Unfortunately the worldwide situation also affects the underground music, and even in a big city like Milan it is not easy to find clubs that can offer a stage suitable for great live shows.

LOUD-NINE

What is the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever been with Loud Nine?
I’ll not define this as the most embarassing situation, but for sure it was the weirdest. In 2010 we had the honor to play at Full Munny Party in Bardonecchia, during a snowboard contest. It was an exciting opportunity for us…the only problem was that we played during the night, outdoor, with -13°!!! It was sick!!! Nobody came to see our show, it was just us and those crazy snowboarders, but we have great memories of that night.

Have you got a good reason to be in Behind Magazine?
I don’t know if we have a good reason to be here, but we’re really proud of it! Thank you for the opportunity.

Have you got something to add?
I would like to thank all the people who supported us over the years, and those who will read this interview. We’ll wait you at our live shows, keep supporting indipendent bands!
