Talk to me about the story of the band!
Matleys are a band from Trento (Italy) formed by Gabriele Valentini (guitar and vocals), Marcello Mattevi (drums and background vocals), Nicola Andreatta (Bass guitar and background vocals) and Denis Rossi (guitar). Thanks to the different musical backgrounds of the members, in their sound you can find out some UK indie rock and contamination that comes from punk and grunge.

What did you do in the last six months?
We were gigging to promote our album and filming our new videoclip that will be released on the third week of november.

What have you got in your wallet now?
We are working on new songs but in a different way: we decided to use our mother tongue in writing the lyrics.

Why have you chosen this name for your band?
There is not a particular meaning in our name, Matleys was the one that sounded good for all the members of the band.

How important is the look/appearance for your band?
Of course we are not a band that points everything on the look, we prefer to concentrate on our music, this is our main purpose.

Tell us about the new LP “Desirevolution”. Are you fully satisfied with it?
We are satisfied with it but, obviously, not fully. Every time we listen to it we find out something that could be changed but we think this happens to everybody.

Which is the highest point of the LP?
“Mr Wolf”, it’s a song that is both simple and powerful that can capture the attention of the listener.

How would you define your sound?
This is one difficult question: every time people ask us which kind of music we play is always hard to answer. Of course all the four of us are in love with distorted guitars and powerful riffs, but each member has a different musical background and we try to put all this differences together in our music.

Rock. Describe for me this word!
This is “The Question”! A lot of people have tried to describe this word before but is impossible, everyone has its own idea about Rock. For us it is a way of being that includes a lot of things, not only music but also literature, art etc.

Which bands have influenced your style?
Even if each member listen to different music, we can tell you that we are mostly influenced by the sound of bands like Queens of The Stone Age, Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
To see our record on the top of Billboard Chart and to make a world tour of course!

Tell me some of the bands you admire.
The same we previously named: Queens Of The Stone Age, Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys, they are totally different but each one has a way to make music that we love.

What song is in your head right now?
“Little Sister” by Queens Of The Stone Age.

Name 3 words that describe your band.
Friendship, patience and fun.

Which are the best and the worst qualities of your band?
The best quality is that we come from different musical background and, at the end of a hard work, we all can put something of ourselves in each song. The worst is that not always this work is done without “fighting” with each other.

And of your local music scene?
The best quality of our local music scene is that every day you can discover a new band, a lot of people like us tries to make their own music. The worst is that there are not enough places in which you can present your work.

What is the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever been with Matleys?
Luckily until now we did not have any embarrassing situation!
