THE NEXT BIG THING: NOLI ME TANGERE

Talk to me about the story of the band!
We are a bunch of dudes who love music. The bros Mattia (guitar) and Andrea (drums) formed this band back in 2010 and since then our dream never changed. Generally speaking a lot of bands have trouble finding the name but we did the opposite! We chose the name and then the band was formed! Initially we were composed by four members but as time passed things changed leading us to become a three-piece which is not easy but at the same time very satisfying. Our formation remained the same since 2012 when Flavio (bass) joined us.

What did you do in the last six months?
We signed with our label This is Core, done our 2 official videos and played some shows, this is only the beginning!

What have you got in your wallet now?
Mattia and Flavio a few penny and some tickets of their last journey, Andy is still searching his wallet…

Why have you chosen this name for your band?
Interesting question, the guitarist chose that name because while he was falling asleep during the art class he came up with this name by looking a famous painting (by Tiziano) which was named indeed Noli Me Tangere. Also because it sounds really good to us! Latin is a magical language.

How important is the look/appearance for your band?
We think that being a band means also creating your own and unique style because you’re representing yourself and you have to distinguish your look from the others (which it’s not a bad thing). Originality is always appreciated by fans.

Tell us about the new LP “Near”. Are you fully satisfied with it?
When we entered in studio we knew that something beautiful was about to happen. Recording this album was not easy but now after so much effort we can say that we’re super satisfied with it because recording our music means to define a chapter of our lives and most of all that we created this album the way we truly wanted it. Sometimes you have to go against the common opinion in order to achieve what you truly want. In our little world Near is a step forward that can define in a new way the commonly called “Metalcore”.

Which is the highest point of the LP?
We talked a lot about this and all of us agree that the highest point of Near is definitely the chorus of Dear Wolf. Every time we listen to that we feel shivers and that’s another sign we’ve done a good job.

…And the lowest point?
Difficult question. We discussed about it and discovered that our ideas had different shades. Generally speaking we like all the tracks but sure the album is not perfect, maybe too much clean guitars towards the ending of the songs that is strange because we love that!

How would you define your sound?
Man that’s really challenging! Ok ehm…like a math/death-core influenced by melodic post-hardcore filled with screamo. Really strange though… Understood that? Haha

Math-core. Describe for me these words!
Metal pumped with noisecore and hardcore punk!

Which bands have influenced your style?
Underoath, Norma Jean, The Devil Wears Prada, August Burns Red and The Chariot for sure!

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Doing what you love. Doesn’t matter if you failed, keep trying.

Tell me some of the bands you admire.
You can love music but if you admire a band that goes way beyond the simple musician. Blink 182 for sure, we love how Mark Hoppus answered all of our questions showing us his appreciation towards his fans when he was in Rome. Despite so much success there’s always a lot of humility in them.

What song is in your head right now?
Flavio has in his mind “Sleepwalking” by Bring Me The Horizon, Andy “Give Me One Good Reason” by Blink 182” while Mattia “Thanks for Nothing” by Sum 41.

Name 3 words that describe your band.
Noli…Me…Tangere!

Which are the best and the worst qualities of your band?
Best ones: passion, hard-work, personality. Bad ones: we should practice a lot more so that we can grow up and faster.

And of your local music scene?
In our town near Rome there isn’t a music scene so we guess that’s the worst quality? Unfortunately in Rome there are few and few bands that we can team up, it’s not easy.

What is the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever been with Noli Me Tangere?
We were on stage and the cymbal stand fell off while we were launching our breakdown. Ugh…

Have you got a good reason to be in Behind Magazine?
We’re so excited for this interview because it gives us the possibility to express ourselves and our music. We’re really glad when people show interest in what we’re doing so thank you.

Have you got something to add?
Everything we’ve done is because our parents support us in every way. Thank you Mom & Dad.
