THE NEXT BIG THING! OVER WYSTERIA SKIES
Talk to me about the story of the band!
We come from different projects, except Tullio (the bassist) and we already knew each other. We enjoyed that kind of music and this is the reason why we decided to make a metalcore/post-hardcore project. Going forward, it became more serious and now we are very determinated on.
What did you do in the last six months?
We recorded the album while we had gigs in Turin.
What have you got in your wallet now?
For now we gained little, but with the sells of the album and the merch we think we can gain something more.
Why have you chosen this name for your band?
It comes from an idea of Alessio (the guitarist). Wysteria is originated from “The Werewolf Of Wysteria”, the nickname of one of the worst serial killer of the history, Albert Fish.
How important is the look/appearance for your band?
It could be ridicolous, but the look is very important in this kind of music.
Tell us about the new LP “Tales of an insidious match”. Are you fully satisfied with it?
For the title, we inspired to the human’s life that it could be a challenge because the thematics of the album represent the “good” and the “bad” in life. Instead, the cover deals with a chess match because in our opinion, life is a challenge and to win against it you need positivity and heart. Some production aspects don’t full fill us very much, but being the first CD, you can ignore it.
Which is the highest point of the LP?
The substantial difference between the songs.
How would you define your sound?
Modern.
Post-hardcore. Describe for me this word!
Crabcore, jumping on stage, 00-000-0-0000 lol, we’re joking. For us is a passion and a lifestyle.
Which bands have influenced your style?
August Burns Red, Parkway Drive, Asking Alexandria, While She Sleeps, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Memphis May Fire.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Make the music our work and our life.
Tell me some of the bands you admire.
Upon This Dawning, Memphis May Fire, August Burns Red, Parkway Drive, Asking Alexandria, The Amity Affliction, Attila, Capture The Crown, Architects, Crown The Empire, Erra, In Hearts Wake, Killswitch Engage, Napoleon, While She Sleeps.
What song is in your head right now?
Upon This Dawning “Embrace The Evil”.
Name 3 words that describe your band.
Friendship, Passion, Dream.
Which are the best and the worst qualities of your band?
The best quality is that we’re very determinated on this project. The worst one is that we’ve to improve some technical and compositional aspects.
And of your local music scene?
In the italian core scene there are a great many talented bands, so it’s a good thing, but it’s really hard to get noticed because here in Italy the idea of life and music is very limited.
What is the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever been with Over Wysteria Skies?
Fortunatelly we’ve never been in embarrassing situations, except the usual technical problems during the shows.
Have you got a good reason to be in Behind Magazine?
We’ve been invited for an interview, so, of course!
