THE NEXT BIG THING! STONE CIRCLES FUZZ ORCHESTRA
Talk to me about the story of the band!
Well, Stone Circles Fuzz Orchestra was formed in early 2013 as a side project of an already existing band called Ten Jam, a Pearl Jam tribute since 2010. In January 2013 a Nirvana’s fans club asked us to rearrange a song for a compilation called “20 years without Kurt”. Our singer was not so excited about it so we decided to create another band with 4/5 of the previous line up, a new name, a new experience. We adopted a 432Hz tuning called “La Verdiano”, we began to play, to create, to explore our sound and we found our dimension in stoner, grunge and hard rock.
What did you do in the last six months?
We have built up our own studio called “Fuzz Bunker” and recorded our first album at Relaxo Studio – Florence – Tuscany, Italy. We have played all around Italy in several clubs and festivals also as opening act for Appaloosa sharing the stage with Red Fang in Pisa @MusicaW Festival.
We have smoked a lot, too.
Why have you chosen this name for your band?
Well, we play a genre like stoner rock in a studio called Fuzz Bunker, we are attracted by megaliths and ancient buildings, so… Hey guys what about “Stone Circles Fuzz Orchestra”?
How important is the look/appearance for your band?
Less important than have a lot of cold beer in our studio.
Tell us about the new self-titled album. Are you fully satisfied with it?
Absolutely! We recorded it completely live in two days, without spend a lot of money, without using post production tools or something like that. Each track just came out naturally, the album sounds real, what you feel by hearing is what we felt playing it, some could like or maybe not but that is what we are, no filters, no tricks.
Which is the highest point of the LP?
Italian fans tell us that “Death For Dummies” and “God’s hangover” are the best tracks in the LP but I really can’t say what I think is the best. My favourite is “Greedy Monkeys” ‘couse I love Orwell but is just my opinion.
…And the low point?
You should tell me about it.
How would you define your sound?
Muddy, heavy, hard, stoned, psychotic.
Hard-rock. Describe for me this word!
Hard rock is purple’s smell.
Which bands have influenced your style?
Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age, Tool and all the ’90s grunge scene.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
Tell me some of the bands you admire.
Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age, Red Fang, Band Of Skulls, Wolfmother, Stoner Kebab and Colour Haze.
What song is in your head right now?
“The ecstasy of Gold” (l’estasi dell’oro) by Ennio Morricone.
Name 3 words that describe your band.
Spaghetti stoner rock.
Which are the best and the worst qualities of your band?
We are free, totally free and It can be the best and the worst quality.
And of your local music scene?
Italian underground are full of great bands. Mainstream totally sucks.
What is the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever been with Stone Circles Fuzz Orchestra?
A friend called us to play in a little club in Rimini, it was a very cold day, we was waiting for the sound check when someone told us “hey guys, come and drink something to warm yourself up, it’s free!”. Four hours later we was on stage performing totally drunk…too drunk to breathe.
I remember nothing but headbanging people me all around…
Have you got a good reason to be in Behind Magazine?
Couse we are totally mad… Aren’t you?
