THE NEXT BIG THING! THEBUCKLE
Talk to me about the story of the band!
TheBuckle is a rock duo: Andrea (guitar/vocals) and Maxim (drums). We were in a band named Unwelcome, and then in Kessler. TheBuckle is our new project, a new start. We strongly believe in what we do, and we fucking love playing loud music.
What did you do in the last six months?
A: We spent the last six months awaiting for the album to be released, and working to the live shows! Can’t wait to start playing these songs in the clubs…
What have you got in your wallet now?
A: Uhm… Cobwebs?!? Ops! I mean lots of money! Aren’t we rock’n’roll stars?
Why have you chosen this name for your band?
A: We spent more time searching for a band-name rather than composing the first songs! We wanted a short name – we believe in short names! – and somehow we wanted something to remind the bands of the sixties… Then we find TheBuckle and we thought it was perfect, but we like to write it as one word. We love it!
How important is the look/appearance for your band?
A: We’re a rock’n’roll band, we don’t fucking care! We always dress in black. That’s it.
Tell us about the new self-titled album. Are you fully satisfied with it?
A: We’re fully satisfied! We wanted to do a rock’n’roll album. We wanted it to be rough, fast, loud. We did it like they did in the golden years of rock n roll: we only spent two days to record anything! All you can hear is what we played: a drum, a guitar with two amps, and a guy screaming in a mic. It’s only rock’n’roll but we like it! Recorded on analogic tape, mixed on an vintage “Neve” console. No pro-tools or overdubbing…
Which is the highest point of the LP?
A: We love every and each one of these songs. Someday I prefer to listen to some, other days I prefer others. But I really think they’re eleven good songs. Otherwise we would not have put them on the record!
…And the low point?
A: We really hope there are no low points!
How would you define your sound?
A: We love to say we play a mixture of hard rock, stoner, post-punk, and hardcore. All supported by a good dose of experimentalism. The result?! A fiery and pounding music, crossed by a dark and gloomy atmospheres and unhealthy, obtundent, memorable melodies.
Rock’n’roll. Describe for me this word!
Sweat, Blood, Beer. Passion. Integrity. Fun.
Which bands have influenced your style?
A: We play together from about twenty years, mainly in Unwelcome and then in Kessler, so the primary influence is ourselves! We really don’t know… We listened to so much music, so many bands, and anything – from Blues to Electronic – has find a way into our record. Wen you have so many influences you really don’t have a single one… That’s when you find your style.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
A: Together on stage making some noise in front of a crowd of rockers! We simply love to play our music as loud as hell…
Tell me some of the bands you admire.
A: It’s so difficult to answer… I really love too many bands, but if I should say the ones I really admire, well, The Clash, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Refused. If you want I can tell you some I listened to in the past months: Touché Amoré, Death From Above 1979, Cursive, Kyuss, Cloud Nothings, Fidlar…
What song is in your head right now?
A: I’m listening to The Stooges’ “Fun House”, and “T.V.Eye” is playing in this exact moment!
Name 3 words that describe your band.
A: Heavy. Hot. Loud.
Which are the best and the worst qualities of your band?
A: We’re honest, direct, sharp, true. We play what we like. No lies. No compromise. Somehow these are the best and even the worst qualities at the same time.
And of your local music scene?
A: Lots of bands. Cool bands. Potentially. But every band works on its own, so I must admit there’s not a real scene. And playing live shows has become really difficult, less clubs, less people, less money everyday. It’s fucking hard…
What is the most embarrassing situation you’ve ever been with TheBuckle?
A: It didn’t happen with TheBuckle but… Playing in front of just one person I think was quite embarassing!
Have you got a good reason to be in Behind Magazine?
A: Rock’n’roll is all about having fun, express yourself, being extreme and start fires on your way. And having a style. Exactly like Behind Magazine.
Have you got something to add?
A: Well, thank you very much and Hurrah For TheBuckle! Our new album is out now, so check it out!
