The North Face presents the new freeride European team
The North Face, the world leader in outdoor apparel, is proud to present the three new skiers that have become part of the The North Face European team.
Sam SMOOTHY (NZ), Leo SLEMETT (FRA) and Sebastien Hannemann (GER) in addition to Xavier De Le Rue (FRA), Markus Eder (ITA), Johan Jonsson (SWE), Giulia Monego (ITA) and Marja Persson (SWE), completing one of the best teams in the world.
After a promising career as a skier, Sam SMOOTHY started racing on the Freeride circuit since 2004, winning the World Heli Ski Challenge in 2011 and finished second in 2012.
In the 2011 edition of the Freeride World Tour, the New Zealander won the fourth place in the final with a victory in Chamonix, second in Courmayeue and third in Roldal, which made him the first athlete to win the men’s category three podium finishes during the stages of the Freeride World Tour. These results have made him the first man to win three podium during the stages of the Freeride World Tour.
This year will be very interesting to follow the nineteen SLEMETT Leo, the youngest member of the team The North Face. After a year in the junior category and one in the World Tour Qualifiers, Slemett has gained entry into the Freeride World Tour 2013.
Among the successes of the season 2011/2012, we must remember the victories in Dahu Freeride Open, Eldorado Freeride Open, Nedaz Freerider and T-Bar Free Session.
Sebastian “Basti” Hannemann has achieved national fame before the international success in the 2008/2009 season, when he had the chance to race in World Tour Qualifier.
The results obtained allowed him to access the Freeride World Tour in 2009/2010 season (10 th place) and 2010/2011 (9 th place). A left ankle injury forced him to stop the 2012 season, giving reasons to return to the 2013 season.
The three skiers took part in the first stage of the Swatch Freeride World Tour ® by The North Face ®, along with teammates Markus Eder and Xavier De Le Rue. Hannemann will make his debut in the second stage in Courmayeur.
